Working without internet

The board, the collage, project documents, tasks, the «Hand sketch», 2D floor plans and estimates keep working when the network is gone. Edits are kept on this device and go to the server on their own as soon as the internet is back. Your team sees them after that. Generations, the guide, AURA's calculations and uploading new files do not work without a network.

What works without a network

  1. An open board keeps working when the internet is gone: you can move and change objects, write text and sticky notes, draw with the pencil and the highlighter, copy and delete, and place pictures that are already on the board.
  2. A strip appears above the canvas: «No internet. Your edits are being saved on this device and will be sent as soon as you are back online. Your team will see them after that.»
  3. While there is no network, the strip shows how many edits wait to be sent. On a phone the strip takes one line, and «Details» opens the full text.
  4. Edits are kept in the browser on this device. If you close or reload the tab without a network, they are not lost.
  5. A board you have already opened on this device can be opened without a network too: its last copy opens with your unsent edits.
  6. The floristry collage and «Keep it simple» work the same way: edits wait on the device, and a collage opened before opens without a network.
  7. If you can only view the board, the strip says the board is shown as it was last time. If the browser had no room to keep the edits on the device, the strip asks you not to close or reload the tab until the network is back.

Documents, tasks, the sketch, plans and estimates

  1. Project documents and «My documents»: a document you opened on this device with internet opens without a network too, together with the list of documents. You can edit the text and the title: «Saved on this device» appears next to the title. Comments, history, sharing, publishing and new documents wait for the network.
  2. Tasks: the task list opens as it was the last time you opened it online. You can create a task, change its title, description, due date, assignee and status, drag a card to another column or delete a task. The changes show in the list at once, and the strip shows how many wait to be sent. A task's discussion and files work only with internet, and a new task list cannot be created offline.
  3. «Hand sketch»: «Save to the board» without a network saves the sketch on this device with its picture and layers. The sketch card appears on the board once the network is back and this board is open. A sketch for «My sketches» goes on its own as soon as there is a network.
  4. 2D floor plan: a plan opened before on this device opens without a network with the note «Offline: plan opened from this device». You can draw, move tables and seat guests, and the top bar says «Saved on this device». The list of plans shows their last copy.
  5. Estimates: the production estimate and the estimate in the project's «Documents» opened before open without a network with the norms and prices loaded last time. You can add and edit rows, and the totals, markup, discount, tax and «Prices by markups» are recalculated on the device. «Save» saves the estimate on the device.
  6. The device keeps copies of the 12 most recently opened documents, plans, estimates and task lists, and everything that has not reached the server yet.

When the network is back

  1. Edits go to the server on their own, in the order you made them. You do not need to press anything, and nothing is sent twice.
  2. While the edits are being sent, the strip says «Back online, sending edits» and how many are left. When everything is saved, «Back online, edits saved» shows for a moment. Only then does your team see your changes.
  3. If a colleague changed the same object in the meantime, AURA asks whose changes to keep. Nothing is deleted silently. «Back online, edits saved» does not show in this case: what was saved is visible on the board.
  4. If the server did not accept some edits, AURA says how many and undoes only them. The other edits are saved.
  5. Sometimes the internet is back but the browser does not notice, for example on a venue's Wi-Fi. AURA retries by itself after a few seconds, and tries at once when you come back to the tab.
  6. Edits are sent while the board or the collage is open. If you left the board without a network, the edits wait on the device and go once you open this board again with internet.
  7. If the AURA server restarts for a short while, the board behaves the same way: the edits wait on the device, the status shows «Saving…», and sending is repeated by itself until the server answers. The «No internet» banner does not appear, and no save error is shown.
  8. Documents, tasks, plans, estimates and sketches for «My sketches» go on their own even if you moved to another page of AURA: it is enough that AURA is open in a tab. Each edit is sent once: sending it again creates no second task and does not overwrite someone else's text.
  9. If a colleague changed the same task, document, plan or estimate while you were offline, AURA overwrites nothing silently and asks which version to keep. For tasks and estimates it is «Keep my edits» and «Take the server version», for a document «Keep my text» and «Take the newer text», for a plan «Open local copy» and «Leave the version from the server».

What does not work without a network

  • Generations: a visualization from a frame, «Finish with AI», «Get the picture» and others. The server makes them, so without a network the button shows a message, and your board edits are still kept.
  • The guide, «Do it for me», «Count what can be counted», the estimate calculators, «Recalculate» by norms, «Load from Excel» and uploading a price list do not work without a network. The buttons stay in place, and when pressed AURA tells you that internet is needed.
  • A sketch already on the board cannot be redrawn offline: its picture is kept on the server. A new sketch can be drawn and saved offline.
  • Uploading new photos, PDFs and other files, including a plan's underlay and task files.
  • Downloading a frame as a PDF or a picture, adding it to a presentation and saving it to the Astral work once the edits have reached the server. Without a network the button tells you so. On a phone, «Photo» warns you before the camera opens.
  • While you are offline, your team does not see your edits and you do not see theirs. Comments, frame chats and participants' cursors also wait for the network.
  • A copy is kept only in this browser on this device. A board, document, plan, estimate or task list you have never opened here cannot be opened without a network.
  • Signing out removes the copies of boards, collages, documents, tasks, plans and estimates and the unsent edits from this device. If some edits have not been sent yet, AURA warns you before you sign out.
