Estimate calculators: fabric, frame, cladding and more

The calculators of the «Estimate» tool work out material consumption and labour from the sizes and the studio norms: fabric and drapery, frame, cladding and print, painting, sewing covers, sheet material, floor covering, crew, logistics and rows by norms. The numbers are calculated by a formula, not by a neural network; a calculation is saved together with its inputs. Available in beta to everyone, no invitation needed.

How to use it

  1. Open an order, the «Count» stage and the «Estimate» tool (the «Estimate» card, the «Open the estimate» button), and click the calculator you need in the «Calculate and add» block. It opens as a panel over the estimate.
  2. Fill in the sizes and choose a material or rate from the studio norms, or type your own value. The result is recalculated as you type.
  3. Check the «How it was calculated» block: it shows the formula and the intermediate numbers, for example the strip length and the number of rolls.
  4. Click «Add to the estimate». The rows go into the estimate with the calculator's name in the «Source» column, and the calculation is saved together with its inputs. «Save calculation» saves it without adding it to the estimate.
  5. To correct a row from a calculator, click «⋯» at the end of the estimate row and «Open calculation»: the panel opens with the previous data, and «Add to the estimate» replaces the rows of that calculation.

Fabric and drapery

  • Set the wall width and height, the roll width and length, the gather, the top hem, the bottom hem, the seam allowance and the reserve.
  • By default the roll is 1.5 × 30 m, the hem is 15 cm at the top and 15 cm at the bottom, and the reserve is 30%: better to have some left than to buy more.
  • The strip length equals the wall height plus the hems. The calculator lays the strips out across the rolls, buys only whole rolls and shows «Cutting by rolls»: how many strips are in each roll and where the reserve, waste and leftover are.
  • Strips can run vertically or across the roll width («Strips along the wall, horizontal seams»). The «Sew the strips into one panel» checkbox adds sewing; without seams the strips hang separately and no sewing goes into the estimate.
  • Enter the fabric price per running metre, per m² or per roll: the calculator also shows it in the other units. A price taken from a conversation waits for the «Confirm the unit» button.

Frame, cladding, sheets and painting

  • «Frame» calculates the profile from the frame area and the consumption norm per 1 m². Curved sections are added with a bending factor, there is a cutting reserve and labour by frame area. This calculates material consumption, it does not check the strength of the structure.
  • «Frame» has «Side returns»: panels at the wall's ends, as in «Backdrop / banner». Choose «Left», «Right» or «Both sides», the «Return depth» (0.6 m by default) and the «Return height» (usually the wall height). Each return adds its depth × height to the frame area, and so to the profile and the welding: 18 m² with returns on both sides of 0.6 × 3 m give 18 + 3.6 = 21.6 m², at 6 m per 1 m² that is 129.6 m of profile. The row formula shows this sum. «No» is the default: a frame is not always for a wall, and calculations saved earlier count as they did.
  • «Cladding and print» calculates panels: banner on a frame, plastic, laminated print, the wrap allowance per side and cutting waste. Print can be put in a separate row by the panel area including the wrap.
  • «Sheet material» calculates plywood, MDF or composite «By area», as in a tender, or «By parts». The sheet size, waste and price come from the norm.
  • «Painting» calculates paint and primer by area and coats: a solid surface, a frame by profile length or a mesh by its overall size with overspray losses. A finished product from the price table is counted at its price.

Sewing, flooring, crew and logistics

  • «Sewing covers» calculates fabric and labour from a template: a cover for a cube or podium, a cover for a round pouf, a floor-length tablecloth or your own pattern pieces. The calculation is preliminary and will be checked by the seamstress.
  • «Floor covering» calculates turf, carpet and other coverings by floor area with a trimming reserve and a purchase factor, plus laying, perimeter tape and dismantling.
  • «Crew» calculates installation, dismantling and supervised installation: people, days and a man-day rate from the norms or your own.
  • «Logistics and travel» calculates trips, accommodation and per diems.
  • «By studio norms» adds rows for any norms with a consumption rate: neon, lightboxes, work. If there are no norms, create them in the «Price list and norms» section.

Good to know

  • A project calculator sees the platform norms and the norms of the project owner, that is, the studio whose estimate it is.
  • If a norm is not approved yet, its row in the estimate is flagged. A price that was not entered arrives as «no price», not zero.
  • If a number is out of the allowed range, the calculator highlights the field and says «A number within the allowed range is needed».
  • Adding the same calculation again updates its rows instead of duplicating them.
  • A saved calculation remembers the norm versions. When the norms are updated, the estimate offers «Recalculate».
  • Products by composition (a bar counter, a panel) are not counted by this panel but by the «Studio products» tile in the decor calculator. A product goes into the estimate as one row with its composition and is recalculated with the same «Recalculate» button, showing the difference before it is applied.
  • These calculators are also in the «Product library», in the «Estimate calculators» group, and count here as before.

Beta: open to everyone

  • The calculators work inside the «Estimate» tool, which is part of «Production» and since 4 October 2026 is available to every account, no invitation needed. An AURA administrator can close the module again to everyone except invited people on the «Beta access» tab: if you do not see the tool, contact support.

Calculators on the phone

In the mobile app open «Production», an order and «Production calculators». All ten calculators of materials and work are available here.

  1. Choose a type, fill in the sizes and prices or choose the studio norms. A price you leave out stays unknown.
  2. Open «Result» and check the formulas, warnings and rows. For fabric, the rolls and the cutting direction are also shown.
  3. «Save calculation» keeps it in the history. «Add to the estimate» moves the chosen rows. These are two separate actions.
  4. A calculation can be opened from the linked estimate row. Before the jump, the current edits of the estimate are saved; the new result updates its own group of rows.
  • The section is available with the beta key of the production estimate and with editor rights. A materials calculation is not a check of the strength of a structure.
  • If the reply about saving is lost, first check the saved calculations. In case of a conflict, refresh the data and check the parameters before repeating the action.
